Report: Spurs exploring the possibility of signing French striker

According to a report in Goal.com, Tottenham Hotspur are considering making an offer for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

The French international was reportedly subject to a £34million bid from Chelsea a few days ago but Lyon rejected the offer (Sky Sports). Reports this week have suggested that the striker has agreed on personal terms with the Blues (Transfer Window Podcast).

However, the report by Goal.com suggests that Spurs could now enter the race for the 23-year-old striker and could go head to head with their London rivals for his signature.

Dembele has netted ten goals in eighteen league appearances for Lyon so far this campaign (transfermarkt) and the French club have insisted that he is not for sale (Lyon’s official statement).

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on bringing in a striker following the hamstring injury suffered by Harry Kane.

Reports over the last couple of days have also revealed suggested that Spurs are in negotiations with AC Milan for Krzysztof Piatek (The Sun).

Spurs Web Opinion

It looks very much like Mourinho wants has prioritized a striker this window in order to help the side cope with the loss of Kane. While Dembele undoubtedly has a higher ceiling than Piatek, I would prefer the club to sign the Milan striker as I feel he is a better fit for what we need. His style is very similar to Kane as he can hold up the ball well and can also drop in between the lines to get involved in the build-up play.
