Report: Spurs express their interest in heavily-linked Newcastle United target

Tottenham Hotspur have expressed their interest in signing Diego Carlos from Sevilla, according to the Daily Mail.

The central defender has been linked with a move to Newcastle United over recent days, with the 28-year-old having submitted a transfer request on Tuesday, but did feature for the La Liga outfit a day later in their 1-1 draw against Valencia (Sky Sports).

Sky had claimed that Newcastle had submitted a £30million offer to land the Brazilian, which has now been matched by an unnamed London-based club which is not thought to be West Ham United or Chelsea.

The Express reported earlier today that the Magpies are considering pulling the plug over their pursuit of the defender after having two bids rejected, having already agreed personal terms and a five-year contract with the player.

If Tottenham were to land Carlos, it would likely signal the end for Japhet Tanganga who has been linked with a move to AC Milan. You would also have to believe that Joe Rodon would also head out of the door, given his lack of game time since the arrival of Antonio Conte.

This would leave Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, and Ben Davies to battle it out for the three positions at the heart of the Italian’s defence.
