Report: Spurs eye La Liga keeper as Hugo Lloris replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are currently monitoring Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris, according to The Athletic.

Lloris has been with the north Londoners since joining from Lyon in 2012 and has racked up over 430 appearances in all competitions for the club (transfermarkt).

The 35-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2024, having signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract in January of this year to take him to over a decade of service at the club (Spurs official).

Oblak is reported to have previously signed a contract with Diego Simeone’s side until 2028 and earns a ’significant’ salary with the former La Liga champions and should he depart, it is said that Manchester United’s David de Gea could return to replace him.

Lloris had been impressive following his return from a dislocated shoulder suffered in October 2019, however, in recent weeks we have seen errors creeping back into his game with high-profile mistakes happening at Arsenal and in the most recent Premier League defeat at home to Newcastle United where he really should have cleared the ball before clattering into Callum Wilson.

Granted, he does save Tottenham on more occasions compared to his moments of madnessr, but they are still proving to be costly when you compare him to the likes of Ederson or Alisson Becker.
