Report: Spurs eyeing former Man Utd star as potential Bergwijn replacement

According to Foot Mercato, Barcelona forward Memphis Depay continues to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer.

Previous reports have indicated that Antonio Conte wants to sign a forward who can play through the middle as well as out wide (The Telegraph).

Plenty of strikers have been linked with a move to Tottenham but over recent days, with Everton star Richarlison reportedly emerging as a primary target (90 min).

However, it remains to be seen whether a move for the Brazilian will be feasible, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that Toffees a whopping €70m- €75m (£60m-£64.2m) to let the player leave this summer (CaughtOffside).

Depay is another forward who was previously mooted as a target for Spurs, with Mundo Deportivo claiming a couple of months ago that the North London club were leading the race for the Netherlands international.

Arsenal and West Ham United have also been credited with an interest in the former Manchester United man (ABC via The Daily Express).

If Foot Mercato’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs still have their eye on Depay, amidst the uncertainty surrounding his future at Camp Nou.

The report claims that Conte’s men are eyeing the 28-year-old as a potential replacement for Steven Berwijn, who is expected to leave the club this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Depay would fit the profile of the forward Spurs are looking for, given his ability to play across the front three. While I think the Dutchman would be an acceptable backup to Harry Kane, he is not of the requisite quality to challenge for a place in Tottenham’s starting eleven, which Jesus and Richarlison arguably would.
