Report: Spurs eyeing move for centre-back who has impressed at Euros

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard this summer.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for multiple central defenders this summer, with both Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez being linked with moves away from the club.

Vestergaard is now into the final year of his contract at St Mary’s and it was reported back in March that he was one of the options on Tottenham’s radar.

However, some sources have also revealed that Southampton have opened talks with the 28-year-old over a new contract to ward off Tottenham’s interest.

The Saints star has put in a solid showing in the European Championship so far, forming a formidable partnership at the back with Simon Kjaer and Andreas Christensen.

The Athletic have now claimed that the Dane is one of the central defenders on Fabio Paratici’s radar.

However, the report explains that Vestergaard is not expected to make a decision regarding his future until Denmark’s Euros campaign is finished.

This could very well be a case of Vestergaard’s representatives feeding this rumour to the press in order to get his client a bumper contract at St.Mary’s.

If we did snap him up, the Dane would be a solid but unspectacular singing, who would certainly improve our backline.

While the 28-year-old arguably does not have as high a ceiling as his compatriot, Joachim Andersen, he would be less risky an acquisition than the Lyon man.
