Report: Spurs eyeing move for Newcastle United player this summer

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.

The report reveals that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici had a meeting in Italy on Friday to discuss the club’s transfer plans this summer.

As corroborated by other reports in the past (The Telegraph and Football Insider), The Mail mention that the likes of Djed Spence, Allesandro Bastoni, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster are all on Tottenham’s radar.

The publication also add that Saint-Maximin is another name on Conte’s wishlist this summer. The 25-year-old has enthralled fans with his dribbling ability since joining Newcastle from Nice three years ago.

The Frenchman’s end product improved markedly in the 2021/22 campaign as he finished the season with five goals and five assists in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

The Mail claim that Spurs are hoping to sign Saint-Maximin, whose current deal at St James’ Park runs until 2026. However, the report adds that getting the pacy winger out of Newcastle will ‘prove difficult’ for Conte’s men.

Saint-Maximin would be a very good replacement for Bergwijn and could be a useful impact substitute for us, given his ability to travel with the ball.

However, singing him from Newcastle will not be easy following their takeover as the Magpies hierarchy could convince the winger to stick around and be a part of an exciting project at the club.
