Report: Spurs face competition from Chelsea and Man Utd for Serie A defender

Journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed on his website that Tottenham face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries.

Reports over recent days have tipped Tottenham to sign a right wing-back in the January transfer window, with Antonio Conte said be keen on an ‘overhaul’ in the position (90 min).

Dumfries, who has excelled in the position since his move to Inter from PSV 15 months ago, is thought to be one of the names on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the January window (CMW).

Galetti has now backed up that claim, stating that Conte is not convinced by Emerson Royal and wants to raid his former club to sign the Dutch international.

However, the journalist explains that the Lilywhites will have to battle it out with Premier League rivals to land the defender. The journalist suggests that Chelsea have already registered their interest in Dumfries while United have obtained information about the right-back, while Inter would consider selling the 26-year-old if they receive offers of over €30m (£26.1m).

The reported £26m figure would be a bargain for a player of Dumfries’ quality and the Dutchman will fit naturally into Conte’s system.

Who Spurs sell between Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty might come down to the kind of offers both players attract in January. It also looks increasingly likely that Djed Spence will be loaned out, which is a frustration considering he should be given the opportunity to at least impress before a decision is made.
