Report: Spurs face competition from European clubs for Nigerian starlet

According to a report from CalcioMercato, some of Europe’s biggest clubs could be set to enter the race for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Paul Mukairu this summer.

Mukairu is currently on a season-long loan at Anderlecht from Turkish side Antalyaspor, with the Belgian club having the option to sign the winger on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has impressed since arriving at Lotto Park, establishing himself as a regular in Vincent Kompany’s starting eleven.

It was reported last month (The Sunday Mirro – 21/2; page 67) that Tottenham were favourites to snap up the Nigerian for around £4m in the summer.

However, CalcioMercato now reveal that Mukairu, who has registered four goals and four assists so far this season, is on the radars of several clubs.

AC Milan are said to be keen on taking the winger to the San Siro while Bayer Leverkusen and PSV Eindhoven are also reportedly tracking the youngster’s progress ahead of a potential summer offer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It could well be Mukairu’s agent who fed Tottenham’s name to the press in order to boost interest in his client. Even if the Nigerian is on the club’s radar, Spurs probably view him as an investment for the future than a player who would make an immediate impact.
