Report: Spurs face competition from five other clubs for right-back target

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur face competition from several of Europe’s big hitters in the race for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto.

Gusto’s reputation has blossomed since he broke into Lyon’s starting eleven last season and the right-back was first mooted as a target for Spurs last month when Alasdair Gold named him as one of the right-wing-backs on the North London club’s radar (Football.London).

Foot Mercato also named Spurs as one of the contenders for the 19-year-old’s signature earlier this week, stating that the North London club had ‘ ‘fallen under the spell’ of the 19-year-old.

However, the publication suggested that it was Newcastle who were leading the race for the Frenchman, with the Magpies backed to make a ‘very big offer’ for the player.

CalcioMercato have now also backed up the interest of Spurs and Newcastle in Gusto but they claim that they are far from the only two clubs monitoring the player. The report states that the Lyon starlet is also on the radar of Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus and Real Madrid.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gusto would not be a good fit for Conte’s system as the 19-year-old is ideally suited to playing as a right-back in a back four rather than as a wing-back. Besides, it is fairly clear that Pedro Porro is the player that Tottenham are prioritising for the position in this transfer window.
