Report: Spurs face competition from Man Utd and PSG to appoint ‘transfer guru’

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be keen to add Andrea Berta to their roster of executives, but the North London club will have to fight off Manchester United and PSG if they are to appoint the Atletico Madrid man.

It is a time of great change at Tottenham right now. The Italian regime that presided over affairs in the last couple of years has well and truly gone, and the club’s hierarchy is being restructured before our very eyes.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy appears to have made the right call this time, with the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as first team manager proving to be a success so far.

In line with Postecoglou’s energetic, no-nonsense personality and the exciting, attacking football he has brought to the club, it seems the executive positions around him are being filled with a similar approach.

Scott Munn has finally started his tenure as Tottenham’s Chief Football Officer, and now the club are seemingly keen to appoint someone to oversee transfer activity, in a similar role to the one previously held by Fabio Paratici.

Spurs want Atletico Madrid transfer guru

According to a report from the Independent, Spurs may have found their man. The only problem is, Manchester United and PSG have eyes on him, too.

The two English clubs “have been considering” Andrea Berta for an executive role, but there could well be “competition” for his services in the form of the Ligue 1 giants.

Funnily enough, Berta would bring some Italian representation back to North London. Berta is said to carry a “strong reputation in the game” after resolving Atletico Madrid’s “haphazard” recruitment strategy.

Berta also fits Tottenham’s desire to locate and acquire a “younger profile of player” in the Postecoglou era. However, Manchester United have “been interested in him before” and feel now could be the right time to make a move.

Meanwhile, PSG are undergoing an “overhaul of their entire football identity” and it is believed Berta offers “the type of outlook” the French club are wanting to pivot to.

Berta has been with Atletico Madrid for the last ten years, initially as Technical Director, before being promoted to the role of Sporting Director in 2017.

Spurs Web Opinion

Andrea Berta certainly seems to fit the profile of what Spurs are looking for when it comes to the transfer side of things, and he’s done a great job at Atletico Madrid.

However, the fact that Manchester United and PSG are both keen, too, suggests we had better have a few alternatives prepared, just in case.
