Report: Spurs face competition from Manchester United for rumoured transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a remarkable season having secured their fourth successive top four finish in the Premier League along with a place in the final of the Champions League for the first time in their history.

What makes the feat even more impressive is the fact that Spurs have not signed anyone since bringing Lucas Moura to the club in January 2018.

After two transfer windows of complete inactivity, Spurs are expected to dip into the transfer market this summer and one name who has frequently been linked with a move to North London is Giovani Lo Celso (The Sun).

However, they could now face competition for the Real Betis midfielder from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Spanish outlet Marca report that United have made contact with the La Liga outfit about the possibility of bringing him to Old Trafford.

Lo Celso has spent the past season on loan at Real Betis from Paris Saint-Germain and only completed a permanent switch last month after the Spanish side paid the £21.6m purchase option (Goal).

United are on the lookout to improve their midfield following Ander Herrera’s decision to leave the club after his contract expired (Man Utd official).

Spurs are said to have already had a £52million offer rejected by Betis (Marca) and their efforts to sign the Argentine look to have become even more difficult with United’s interest.

Opinion

Lo Celso has had an impressive season during his loan spell at Betis and it is no doubt that both United and Spurs have been credited with an interest. However, it remains to be seen if Spurs will make another offer following their alleged rebuffed bid of £52million.
