Report: Spurs face competition from Newcastle and Aston Villa for midfield target

Sabah have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could be set to battle Aston Villa and Newcastle United for Fenerbahce midfielder Ismail Yuksek this summer.

Yuksek is having an outstanding season at Istanbul, with the midfielder’s stock continuing to rise with each passing week. He is expected to play a huge part in Turkey’s European Championship campaign in the summer.

It was Fotomac who were the first to report last month that Tottenham had scouted the 25-year-old extensively and were contemplating a summer move.

A couple of weeks ago, HITC also reported that Ange Postecoglou’s men had identified the Fenerbahce star as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Sabah have now also confirmed that Tottenham have watched Yuksek over recent weeks but the outlet says that the North London club are not the only Premier League side to have their eye on the player.

Newcastle and Villa are also named as admirers of the Turkish star, with the report suggesting that we could see a three-horse race develop for the midfielder’s signature.

However, the publication points out that Yuksek is contracted to Fenerbahce until 2027, which is why the Istanbul giants are not expected to sell their star man on the cheap this summer.

Transfer updates from Turkish outlets should be taken with a pinch of salt as they tend to blow stories out of proportion. Tottenham might have scouted Yuksek this season but that does not mean that the Lilywhites are likely to press ahead with an offer for the 25-year-old.
