Report: Spurs face competition to land Croatian

According to a report by Croatian publication Tportal, Tottenham Hotspur are among a number clubs in Europe chasing the highly-rated Croatian Ivan Lepinji.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder who plays for HNK Rijeka has been impressing in the Croatian league and is said to be considered as one of the top talents to come out of his homeland in recent years.

Tottenham and Chelsea are both said to be keen on landing Lepinji while Championship high flyers Leeds United and West Brom have also been credited in tracking the Croatian Under-21 international’s progress.

In addition, the likes of Juventus, Udinese, Atalanta, Sampdoria and Fiorentina have all reportedly sent scouts to watch the midfielder in action this season.

It is also revealed that the 6ft 2in player is contracted to HNK Rijeka until 2024 and that the club will are prepared to let him go for around £4.2million.

We certainly seem to be getting linked with a lot of defensive midfielders over the past few weeks which suggests that that is a position the club are keen to strengthen in. With Sissoko now being out till April, it has only become even more crucial for the club to bring in a central midfielder this month.
