According to Sky Sports, Southampton could be ready to make a move for Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Evan N’Dicka, who is also said to be interesting Tottenham Hotspur.

While Tottenham have been linked with a whole host of right-backs over the past few weeks, there have no been too many reports linking the club with left-back options.

However, Spurs could be short of numbers in the position, with Danny Rose reportedly on his way out in the summer (Northern Echo) and Ryan Sessegnon likely to be used further forward (Football Insider).

Sky Sports reveal that Tottenham are one of a number of Premier League clubs who have been tracking N’Dicka’s performances for Frankfurt.

N’Dicka can play at both at left-back as well as a left-sided central defender and could be the ideal replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who is expected to leave the club this summer when his contract expires (Football Insider).

The 20-year-old has caught the eye with his performances over the last two seasons in the Bundesliga and the report suggests that Liverpool and Arsenal are also interested in the France U21 international.

My gut feeling is that we are likely to move for a left-sided centre-back who can cover at left-back rather than an out and out left-back. This is because, in the lopsided back four that Mourinho employs, he prefers the left-back to tuck inside and make it a three, while the right-back bombs forward to create an overload. This is why Ben Davies is, in many ways, the perfect fit for what Jose’s wants of a left-back in our current system.
