Report: Spurs face stiff competition to land Brazilian forward

Flamengo are reportedly working on a permanent deal for Gabriel Barbosa after fearing that a number of clubs including Tottenham Hotspur could make a late approach (90 min).

The 23-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season during his loan stint with the Brazilian in which he netted 34 goals (transfermarkt) during his time away from Inter Milan.

Barbosa returned to Italy earlier this month and has already shunned advances from Newcastle United, West Ham United and Crystal Palace this month as he wants to move to a big club.

Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been alerted and are keen to make an approach with Inter willing to allow him to depart for a fee of €25m.

Chelsea are said to be interested in taking the player dubbed ‘Gabigol’ on a permanent deal while United and Tottenham would prefer a loan deal which Inter will only entertain if there is an obligation to make the deal permanent following the conclusion of the current campaign.

Flamengo are hoping that they can persuade Barbosa to continue his career in his homeland despite the rumoured interest of the Premier League elite.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Spurs, Man Utd and Chelsea are all looking to sign centre forwards this window, they will likely be looking at the same targets. It could be that they are waiting to see if a couple of big names like Cavani become available for a lower transfer fee in the final few days of the transfer window.
