Report: Spurs facing competition from Juventus and Newcastle for 22-year-old

Fichajes have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to face competition from Juventus and Newcastle United for AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo in the summer.

Calciomercato.it reported last month that Fabio Paratici is an admirer of Zaniolo and Roma could be willing to listen to offers for the player in the summer starting from around £34m.

Sky Italia subsequently claimed that Spurs ‘dream’ of snapping up the Italy international in the summer to partner him with Harry Kane.

Fichajes have now backed up that claim, stating that Spurs want to add Zaniolo to their attack alongside Kane and Son Heung-min.

The report asserts that signing the 22-year-old would convince Antonio Conte that ‘there is a project with important aspirations’ in North London.

However, it is explained that Zaniolo is also on Juventus’ radar, with Massimiliano Allegri’s side viewing the winger as their top target in the summer.

In addition, Newcastle also allegedly view the skilful left-footer ‘an interesting option’ to enhance their attack, with the Magpies keen on an assault on the European places next season.

Fichajes add that Roma would be open to cashing in on Zaniolo in the summer but the Giallorossi are set to demand €60m (£49.7m) for the attacker’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be extremely wary of spending £50m on Zaniolo. While the 22-year-old’s talent is not in question, he has struggled to hit the same heights since returning from his injury layoff.

I would rather see us spend around £60m on someone like Lautaro Martinez, who would be much of a guarantee than Zaniolo.
