Report: Spurs failed in last-minute transfer hijack of midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur failed with a last ditch approach to try and sign Swansea City midfielder Daniel James, according to Football Insider.

The Welsh international wrapped up a move to Manchester United on Friday with the move becoming official hen Fifa’s international transfer window opens next week (Man Utd official).

The 21-year-old has completed a medical and will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing since taking over from Jose Mourinho as manager at Old Trafford.

Football Insider claim a source informed them that Spurs had been in contact to try and persuade him to join the Champions League finalists but the player who has been capped three times by his country had already set his heart on a move to Manchester United.

James caught the eye for the Swans last season having scored five goals in 38 appearances last season, including a stunning solo goal against Brentford at the Liberty Stadium in which he showed his electric pace to race through and finish.

The goal certainly had a touch of ‘Gareth Bale’ about it, but it will be in the red of United in which he is playing next season leaving Spurs to turn their attentions elsewhere.
