Report: Spurs fans ‘appeared to be attacked’ by hooligans during Heung-min Son match

A few Images and videos doing the rounds on social media show that some supporters wearing Tottenham shirts were seemingly attacked by Chinese fans during South Korea’s World Cup qualifier against China on Tuesday.

This has been backed up by reports from The Sun and Mail Sport, who both claimed that Spurs fans appeared to be attacked by hooligans in China.

The South Koreans emerged comfortable 3-0 winners in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, with captain Son Heung-min netting a first-half brace.

The Spurs star converted from the spot on 11 minutes before meeting a corner-kick with a brilliant flicked header that sailed into the far corner just before the interval.

Ulsan Hyundai defender Seung Hyeon-Jung rounded off the scoring for Jurgen Klinsmann’s men in the dying moments of the game.

Tottenham fans appear to be targeted in China

However, the events on the pitch appear to have been overshadowed by what happened in the stands.

One video shows a fan wearing a number 7 Spurs shirt with the name ‘Won’ on the back being dragged away from his seat and towards the exit by other spectators.

Another photo then shows a fan in a Spurs shirt getting into a brawl with some other supporters in the venue.

The China-South Korea football rivalry has become quite intense over the last few years and it is not overly surprising that those who were cheering on Son in the home hand were subject to this kind of treatment.
