Report: Spurs favourites ahead of Man City to snap up 22-year-old midfielder

According to a report from inews, Tottenham Hotspur are now the front-runners in the race for Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg.

Svanberg has come on leaps and bounds since joining Bologna from Malmo as a teenager. Over the last couple of seasons, the 22-year-old has established himself as one of the key components of the Serie A club’s midfield, as well as for the Sweden national side.

It has now been reported by inews that Spurs have leapfrogged Manchester City in the race for Svanberg ahead of the January transfer window.

City allegedly sent scouts to watch the Swede in action in Bologna’s 1-0 win over Roma at the start of December.

However, it is explained that Fabio Paratici’s connections could give the North Londoners the edge ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men in the race for the midfielder.

Paratici is said to have previously tried to take Svanberg to Juventus and the Spurs managing director is now thought to be tracking the player again.

The report reveals that the former Malmo man turned down a new contract offered by Bologna, and with his deal running out in the summer of 2023, the Serie A club are allegedly ready to cash in on the midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

Central midfield is one area that Conte will likely be keen on strengthening in January as he seemingly has just three options for two positions in Hojbjerg, Skipp and Winks.

I think the Italian sees Ndombele, Lo Celso and Dele as attacking options to play as part of the front three (or as a number 8 in a 3-5-2) rather than options for the two-man midfield pivot.
