Report: Spurs favourites to beat Mourinho’s Roma to 21-year-old right-back

Calciomercato.it have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now the favourites to land Norwich City right-back Max Aarons.

Aarons has impressed in the Premier League and the Championship since breaking into Norwich’s starting eleven back in 2018.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old (The Times and Sky Sports) during the summer transfer window but the right-back ended up staying put at Carrow Road.

CalcioMercato.it have now revealed the Norwich star is subject to interest from several clubs around Europe ahead of the January transfer window.

It is explained that former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has asked Roma to snap up the England under-21 star.

The Giallorossi are already thought to have made a loan offer with an option to buy the right-back, which is said to have been turned down by Dean Smith’s side.

Borussia Dortmund and Everton are also alleged to have shown interest in snapping up Aarons.

However, the report adds that it is Tottenham who are the Norwich defender’s most likely destination either ‘in January or June’.

It is said that Norwich value Aarons at around €22m (£18.7m) ahead of the January window.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am surprised that someone has not already picked up Aarons as he has been performing consistently for Norwich for the best part of four years. Perhaps, the Canaries’ asking price had put off potential suitors in the past.

However, with the right-back now having just two and half years left on his contract, he could be available for a modest price within the next two transfer windows. I believe he will be an upgrade over Doherty and a good fit for Conte’s system.
