Report: Spurs favourites to sign star despite part-exchange offer rejection

According to a report from Le10 Sport, Tottenham Hotspur have seen a big offer for Houssem Aouar rejected by Lyon but the North Londoners have not given up hope of snapping up the midfielder.

Previous reports have indicated that Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, is an admirer of Aouar, having tried to take the Lyon star to Juventus last summer.

The North Londoners are alleged to be keen on bringing the 23-year-old to the Premier League before the transfer window shuts.

Meanwhile, Tanguy Ndombele is thought to have expressed his desire to leave Spurs before the window closes and some sources alleged over the weekend that the Lilywhites had offered the midfielder to Lyon in a swap deal for Aouar.

Le10Sport have now elaborated further on Tottenham’s offer, revealing that the Premier League club had made a ‘big proposal’ to Lyon of Ndombele plus cash for Aouar.

However, it is alleged that the Ligue 1 club were not interested in taking Ndombele back due to the Spurs star’s salary.

The report adds that while the chances of Ndombele returning to Lyon are now over, Tottenham are still the front-runners for Aouar’s signature.

It is claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men could return with another offer for the French international, with Lyon said to be open to selling the player.

Aouar would certainly offer something different to the likes of Hojbjerg, Skipp and Dele, and could prove a useful addition to the squad even if he does not become a regular starter. However, it will be a huge challenge for Paratici to find a buyer for Ndombele in the final week of the transfer window.
