According to the print edition of Il Mattino (23/05/22 – as relayed by Area Napoli and Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur have been taken aback by the fee that Napoli are demanding for Piotr Zielinski.

Zielinski has been a consistent performer for the Partenopei since arriving in Naples from Empoli back in 2016 but the midfielder has fallen down Luciano Spalletti’s pecking order over the second half of this campaign.

Alfredo Pedulla reported a few days ago that the attacking midfielder will consider his future at the end of the season, with Antonio Conte said to be keen on bringing him to Spurs.

This has now been backed up by Il Mattino, who suggested that both Conte and Fabio Paratici rate the Polish international highly, with the former previously trying in vain to take the midfielder to Inter Milan in 2019.

The report explains that Spurs asked Napoli about Zielinski but the Serie A club demanded a fee of €50m (£42.8m), which ‘frightened’ the North London club.

It is said that while a move to Tottenham is on the cards for the 28-year-old, Napoli would have to lower their asking price for the deal to go ahead.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Zielinski will be an automatic starter for us. Conte is probably eyeing him as a squad player to give him the flexibility to shift to a 3-5-2 if needed. So, I do not think Tottenham would be willing to pay upwards of £30m or so for the Pole.
