Report: Spurs gave a significant pay-off to Lloris to facilitate transfer

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur agreed to pay off the remainder of Hugo Lloris’ contract so that the goalkeeper could complete a switch to Los Angeles FC.

It is the end of an era at Spurs, with the club’s long-serving captain and record Premier League appearance maker, Lloris, departing after 11 and half years in North London.

While the Frenchman had declined over the last 18 months or so, eventually being relegated to third choice in his final six months at the club, he will be remembered by Spurs fans for his countless heroics, being up there with the best goalkeepers in the world for a good chunk of his time with the Lilywhites.

Tottenham paid off Lloris’ contract

Football Insider have claimed that Spurs agreed to pay the 36-year-old a seven-figure sum to push through his move to the Major League Soccer side.

It is explained that Lloris took a major pay cut to move to the United States, with the Premier League side thus allegedly compensating him for the six months left in his £100,000-a-week deal at Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a nice gesture from Tottenham and the least that Hugo deserved, given the outstanding service he has given to the club.

Lloris would have been able to earn significantly more than the £100,000-per-week Spurs paid him had he left the club at his pomp, and this pay-off is thus a just reward for his loyalty.
