Report: Spurs’ ‘great relationship’ with club could help them land midfielder

According to a report from ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur’s positive relationship with Lyon could work to the North London club’s advantage in their pursuit of Houssem Aouar.

Aouar has been a consistent performer in the heart of Lyon’s midfield for the last four seasons and his performances seem to have caught the attention of the Premier League’s elite.

Arsenal tried in vain to sign the midfielder last summer and are set to make another attempt to land him this year but are expected to be challenged by their North London rivals, Spurs (Mirror).

ESPN now report that Liverpool and Manchester United have also shown interest in Aouar but suggest that Tottenham and Arsenal are the front-runners for the 23-year-old’s signature as things stand.

It is revealed that Spurs have ‘a great relationship’ with Lyon since their signing of Tanguy Ndombele in 2019 and that could give the Lilywhites the edge in the race for Aouar.

The French international is expected to be available for a fee in the region of €25m (£21.3m).

While Aouar is certainly a special talent, one could argue that he is quite similar to Ndombele and Lo Celso. Perhaps Nuno and Paratici view the 23-year-old as the man to take Harry Winks’ place in the squad.
