Report: Spurs had ‘concern’ they could have previously lost Son to Man City

Tottenham Hotspur rounded off their Premier League campaign on a high note with the club having secured a return to the Champions League while Heung-min Son scooped the Golden Boot award.

The South Korean scored twice against Norwich City on Sunday to take his top flight tally to 23 for the season which in the end was enough to share the accolade with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The Daily Mail have claimed that there was concern within Tottenham between 2017 and 2018 that Manchester City could prise the forward away from north London.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy intervened to shut down any prospect of City landing the former Bayer Leverkusen player.

Son was said to have caught the eye of City boss Pep Guardiola after helping Spurs to three successive Champions League qualifications under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino.

The 29-year-old played a key role in eliminating the Etihad outfit from the 2018/19 Champions League having scored three goals across both quarter-final legs to see his side secure their place in the semi-final on away goals.

Son signed a new four-year contract last summer to keep him in N17 until 2025 (Spurs official).

Levy is certainly becoming experienced at fending off interest from City in his star players having shut down the possibility of Harry Kane leaving to join them last summer.

There now has to be a shift with Spurs instead on the front foot and looking to bring in top talent to bolster Antonio Conte’s ranks, rather than fearing who could leave.
