Report: Spurs handed potential boost as club drop out of race for striker

In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham in their pursuit of Elye Wahi, Bild journalist Christian Falk has now revealed that Borussia Dortmund have pulled out of the race for the Montpellier starlet.

Wahi is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best young talents in French football, with the centre-forward having 10 goal contributions to his name in 21 Ligue 1 matches so far this season (Transfermarkt).

The 20-year-old has represented France at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 levels and a call to the Les Blues set-up might be just around the corner if he maintains his current form.

The forward’s impressive displays over the last 18 months have allegedly caught Tottenham’s attention, with Telefoot reporting last week that Antonio Conte’s men are tracking the youngster ahead of the summer transfer window.

The publication added that the Lilywhites could face competition from their North London rivals, Arsenal, as well as from Borussia Dortmund for Wahi’s signature.

However, Falk has now revealed that Dortmund have decided against making a move for the Montpellier star and added that a move to the Premier League could be on the horizon for the player.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Dortmund are out of the race for Elye Wahi, so the chances for the Premier League clubs are a little bit bigger.

“Dortmund always has a good argument up their sleeve of offering playing time and being good for development, so this argument is waved away. The English clubs can get in with money.

“I think we need to keep a close eye on the player, as he seems a very interesting option. Perhaps he’s too interesting already now for Bundesliga clubs interested in buying him.”

I would not be surprised if Paratici looks to complete a deal similar to the Pape Sarr one, where Wahi is signed and loan backed to Ligue 1 to continue his development.

The 20-year-old looks set to have a bright future in the game but he does not quite appear ready to challenge for a first-team spot at Spurs.
