Report: Spurs have £52million bid rejected

Tottenham Hotspur have had a £52million bid rejected for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso according to reports in Spain.

Lo Celso spent last season on loan at Betis and only officially became their player last month after they they triggered a £20million option in the deal.

The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive season in La Liga having scored 16 goals and provided six assists in his 46 appearances in all competitions to him earn a call-up to Argentina’s squad for the Copa America.

Diaro de Sevilla report that Spurs offered over double that Betis paid PSG for the midfielder but still below his £88million transfer release clause.

PSG will be owed 20% of any fee Betis make on a sale and will be keen to raise as much money as they can if they are tempted to part company (AS).

With Christian Eriksen’s future in North London still uncertain due to his contract expiring next summer and amid heavy interest from Real Madrid (Marca), Lo Celso could certainly prove to be a capable replacement.

Opinion

If Spurs have already make a £52million offer, which would have been a club record transfer fee it would be surprising if they went back in with an increased offer. While Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be handed funds this summer, it seems unlikely he is going to spend large amounts of money on a player.
