Report: Spurs have asked 23-year-old to train with Under-21s ahead of potential transfer

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Djed Spence has been asked to train with Tottenham’s Under-21s after returning from his loan spell at Leeds United.

Leeds’ decision to prematurely end Spence’s loan spell at Elland Road came out of the blue last week and it was immediately clear that something had gone wrong behind the scenes as the Tottenham man’s on-pitch performances had been of a high standard.

Daniel Farke subsequently explained over the weekend that the decision had been made due to the 23-year-old’s disciplinary issues, with the Leeds boss insisting that the right-back does not fit in with the kind of culture he is trying to create at the Championship side (Joe Donnohue).

It was subsequently reported by The Daily Mail that there are also concerns at Spurs over Spence’s attitude and that the North London club had put up the defender for sale.

Spence training away from the first-team

Gold has now revealed that the player has been asked to train with the youth squad rather than the first team on his return to the club.

Gold adds that Spence and Sergio Reguilon, who returned from his loan spell at Manchester United, will both secure moves away from Hotspur Way this month.

This comes as Spence is being linked with a loan to Genoa in order to act as a makeweight in Tottenham’s deal to sign Radu Dragusin (Fabrizio Romano).

Spurs Web Opinion

I hope that Djed Spence is not yet another example of a player who has all the talent but lacks the right attitude to succeed at the top. Perhaps another 6-months out on loan could do him some good. His style actually fits well into Postecoglou’s system, he just needs to get his head down.
