Report: Spurs have been closely watching Ligue 1 midfielder linked with Arsenal

According to Sky Sports transfer centre (at 15:44 – 25/01/2022), Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs interested in Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Guimaraes has emerged as arguably one of the best holding midfielders in Ligue 1 since his move to Lyon two years ago.

Antonio Conte is thought to be keen on adding a midfielder to his squad before the transfer window shuts on Monday, with Sofyan Amrabat thought to be the Lilywhites’ number one target (The Telegraph).

However, Calciomercato.it claimed earlier this month that Guimaraes is another option on Tottenham’s radar.

This has now been backed up by Sky Sports, who suggest that Spurs have been watching the Brazilian closely.

However, the report adds that it is Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal who are currently leading the race for the Lyon man.

It is said that Guimaraes is valued at €30m (£25.1m) by the Ligue 1 club and that the Gunners ‘have not given up’ on trying to snap up the midfielder before the window slams shut.

On the face of it, Guimaraes would certainly be a lot more exciting addition than Amrabat. However, if it is true as reported (The Telegraph) that Antonio Conte wants the Moroccan, then the club should certainly back him. Perhaps, the Fiorentina man would be a better fit for our system.
