Report: Spurs have been holding talks ‘for weeks’ with club for striker

Journalist Rudy Galetti has now claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have been talking to Feyenoord for weeks over a potential a summer deal for Santiago Gimenez.

It has been widely reported over the last few months that Spurs are expected to prioritise signing a marquee number nine when the transfer window reopens in June (Football Insider).

Gimenez, who has had two prolific seasons at De Kuip, is thought to be one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist but the Lilywhites are expected to face plenty of competition for the player.

Just a couple of days ago the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) suggested that both AC Milan and Napoli are ready to challenge Spurs for the Feyenoord frontman.

If Galetti’s latest update is to be beleived, the Premier League side have already taken steps to move to the front of the queue for Gimenez’s services.

The journalist took to social media to allege that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have been locked in talks with last season’s Eredivisie winners for weeks about the striker.

Interstingly, Galetti suggests that Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson has been identified as a backup by Spurs in case Gimenez proves out of their reach.

Gudmundsson is a different profile to Gimenez as the Icelandic star is not someone who is adept at leading the line on his own. Having said that, Postecoglou clearly likes number nines who are capable of interchanging positions and might feel that the Genoa star fits the bill.
