Report: Spurs have been in contact about midfielder but player has refused move

According to a new report from TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur have been in contact about a move for Barcelona’s Franck Kessie but the player himself has refused.

Kessie only signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2022, on a free transfer, but has struggled to make an impact with the Catalan side so far. The 26-year-old has just one goal and 17 appearances to his name this season (Transfermarkt).

A report from La Repubblica last week claimed Antonio Conte was keen to bolster his central midfield options and suggested Kessie was at the top of his wishlist for that area.

It is believed that Spurs were keen to make another attempt to sign Kessie after failing to secure his signature in the summer (Fichajes.net).

However, it has emerged that they may face competition from Inter Milan, who are looking to arrange a potential swap deal with the La Liga side for Kessie (Fabrizio Romano).

If the latest from TuttoMercatoWeb is to be believed, Spurs have already had a setback in their pursuit of the Ivorian midfielder and they may not be able to convince Kessie to move to North London at all.

Apparently, “there has been contact with Tottenham,” of which the nature is unclear. The kicker, though, is that Kessie himself has “refused” the idea of joining the Premier League club, at least at this stage. On the other hand, a “call from Milan” is thought to be enough to “tempt” the player to return from Italy.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears Antonio Conte is a big fan of Kessie, and he is a good player, but if he’s not bothered about joining us that should be enough for us to move on and focus on other targets. There are plenty of other central midfield options out there if that is indeed an area Conte wants to improve.
