Report: Spurs have been in ongoing talks with Big-Six rival about defender

London World have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Manchester United regarding a deal for Harry Maguire this summer.

Soon after Ange Postecoglou’s arrival, it was reported by multiple outlets (The Daily Mail and 90 min) that the Australian had given the green light for the Lilywhites to pursue Maguire.

It emerged a couple of days later that Aston Villa and Everton were also eyeing moves for the centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window (Football Transfers).

Meanwhile, The Telegraph also claimed a couple of weeks ago that Kane would welcome a move for Maguire, with the pair said to have a good relationship from their time together with England.

However, the speculation linking the Man Utd star with a move to Spurs has died down over the past week, with reports over recent days suggesting that the Lilywhites are eyeing moves for the likes of Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Taposoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky Van de Ven instead (Fabrizio Romano).

Man United and Spurs have been in Maguire talks

London World have now claimed that talks have been ongoing between Tottenham and the Red Devils over a deal for Maguire this summer.

However, it is explained that the 30-year-old’s £189,904 per week salary might be a stumbling block in any potential deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

Maguire is nowhere near as bad as he has been made out to be by some Man Utd fans, with the 30-year-old being unfairly criticised at times over the last couple of years.

While there is no doubt that he is a good centre-back, I just do not see him as a good fit for Postecoglou’s system, given his age and his lack of recovery speed.
