Report: Spurs have been interested in 26-year-old ‘throughout his career’

Sport have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have been fans of Raphinha for a long time and have backed the North London club to make a move for the Barcelona star next summer.

It has been widely reported over the past month that Tottenham are prioritising signing a top-class winger when the transfer window reopens in June (The Independent).

Raphinha is thought to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar, with Relovo suggesting last month that Spurs are one of the clubs who are keeping an eye on the Brazilian’s situation and had even reached out to the player’s representatives over a summer move.

Since then, the likes of HITC have also backed Tottenham’s interest in the 26-year-old but they suggested that the Lilywhites could be facing competition from other Premier League sides, including West Ham, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Spurs are long-term admirers of Raphinha

Sport have now provided an update on Raphinah’s future, suggesting that even though the winger has been gaining prominence in recent weeks at Camp Nou, his future very much remains up in the air.

Although the former Leeds man wants to prove himself in Catalonia, it is explained that Barca would have to sell some players in the summer, given their financial situation.

The report adds that Tottenham have been ‘interested in him throughout his career’ and are expected to try again to get their hands on the player in the summer.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men would have to be wary of competition from Saudi Arabia, with an unnamed club from the Middle Eastern country allegedly ready to make an €80m (£68.3m) offer for Raphinha.

Tottenham might have identified Raphinha as a potential alternative to Pedro Neto as the Barca star would likely be less expensive than the Wolves star while there might also be concerns at the North London club about the latter’s injury record.
