Report: Spurs have been left ‘devastated’ about key man leaving club this summer

A report in The Athletic now claims that a source has revealed that Tottenham are ‘devastated’ by their impending loss of a key cog in the club’s machine.

It was announced earlier this month that Tottenham are set to lose a key member of their backroom staff in the summer, with John McDermott taking up a new position at the FA.

McDermott has served Spurs for 15 years and is the current head of academy and development, playing a huge role in bridging the youth system and the senior team.

His imprint will be left on the team long after he is gone, with the likes of Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp, and Japhet Tanganga all being developed under McDermott’s watchful eye.

He also helped to develop the likes of Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb, Tom Carroll, Jake Livermore, Andros Townsend, and more. John is being named as the new FA assistant technical director in June.

The Athletic report adds that, not only did McDermott consistently bring through talent, but he was also an outstanding person.

It is claimed that he did ‘everything in his power’ to make things as bearable as possible for Ugo Ehiogu’s family after his passing.

McDermott also even organised Spanish classes for one youth player in order to broaden his horizons.
