Report: Spurs have been ‘pressing for months’ to sign Italian midfielder

It appears Tottenham’s interest in Nicolo Zaniolo has not faded away after reports from Italy suggest that Lilywhites have been pressing for months to sign the Roma star.

Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for Zaniolo last summer with reports suggesting that the club were seriously considering a £40 million offer for the midfielder (Mirror).

The Italian international’s agent Claudio Vigorelli revealed last summer that Spurs’ interest in Zaniolo was serious but that the North Londoners decided to go for Giovani Lo Celso over the Serie A player (Daily Mail).

Spurs were once again linked with a move for Zaniolo in January, with the Daily Express suggesting that the club wanted him as a replacement for Christian Eriksen.

The 20-year-old has been out of action for the last four months since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Juventus in January.

However, that appears not to have dampened Spurs’ interest in the Italian with Leggo claiming that the Champions League finalists are pushing hard to land Zaniolo.

Manchester United are also said to be interested in the midfielder’s signature and the report suggests that Roma will accept an offer of around £53million for him this summer.

Zaniolo is a top talent and reminds me of a young Erik Lamela in many ways. Not only does he have a tremendous left-foot and a knack for scoring goals, but he is also quite tenacious and works his socks off every game. However, there is no way we are going to pay anywhere close to £53m for him under the current circumstances.
