Report: Spurs have come up with a new Timo Werner plan ahead of the summer

HITC have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to try to extend Timo Werner’s loan spell at the club beyond the end of the season.

Werner has made a big impact since arriving at Tottenham on loan in January and various outlets over the last few weeks have claimed that the Lilywhites are expected to activate the £15.5m option to buy him permanently in June.

The latest to make that claim was GiveMeSport, who revealed last week that Spurs are ‘increasingly likely’ to sign the German international permanently as everyone at Hotspur Way has been impressed by how he has seamlessly fitted into a new environment since his arrival.

Tottenham want to extend Timo Werner’s loan

HITC now point out that while Spurs are happy with Werner’s performances and want to keep him at the club beyond the end of the season, they might try a different formula to do so.

Rather than taking up the option to buy him, it is said that they will look to extend his loan spell at the club by a further 12 months.

The publication adds that while the 28-year-old would be open to extending his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it remains to be seen how Leipzig would respond to Spurs’ request.

There is no reason for Leipzig to entertain the idea of extending Werner’s loan deal. The German international will have just one year left on his contract in the summer of 2025, which means that his market value will drop further.
