Report: Spurs have enquired about availability of 22-year-old relegated winger

According to 90 min, Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the availability of Burnley winger Dwight McNeil this summer.

McNeil has progressed steadily since breaking into the Burnley first-team back in 2018.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a mainstay in the Clarets starting eleven over the past few years, and although his goal numbers are quite ordinary, he has showcased his ability to carry the ball and provide a wicked cross into the box.

The winger has seemingly been on Tottenham’s radar for quite a while, with the North London club first being linked with a move for the player two years ago (TEAMtalk).

90 min have now claimed that Spurs are one of several clubs who have asked about McNeil this summer following Burnely’s relegation from the top flight.

Everton, Brentford, Fulham and West Ham are also thought to have shown interest in the winger while Newcastle United are said to be the frontrunners, with Eddie Howe thought to be a fan of the Burnley star.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs did make an enquiry for McNeil this summer, I suspect Conte looked at the 22-year-old as a potential option for the left wing-back role.

His engine, one vs one ability and crossing would have made him a decent fit for the position in Conte’s system.

However, now that we have snapped up Ivan Perisic, I suspect the club’s interest in the Burnley winger would have ended.
