Report: Spurs have evaluated former Real Madrid boss for managerial role

According to a report from Sky Italy, Tottenham Hotspur have evaluated a shock move to appoint Zinedine Zidane as their new manager following the departure of Antonio Conte.

Zidane has had two spells as manager of Real Madrid, first operating between January 2016 to May 2018. He then returned to the role in March 2019 before leaving in the summer of 2021.

The French legend has been unemployed since then. Even in a relatively short managerial career, Zidane already has three Champions League titles to his name, plus two La Liga and two Copa del Rey titles (Transfermarkt).

The 50-year-old was largely expected to take over the France job after the 2022 World Cup, but that didn’t come to fruition as Didier Deschamps continued his reign of the national team (OneFootball).

Zidane has also been linked with a future role at Paris Saint-Germain (The Sun), but is still without a job as things stand.

Tottenham Hotspur are now without a manager, after parting ways with Antonio Conte on Sunday.

At the moment, the club has announced that Conte’s former assistant Cristian Stellini will oversee the Spurs first team until the end of the season, with the help of Ryan Mason.

Now, it appears Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is plotting a big move for Zidane as he searches for a new permanent manager in North London.

The report from Sky suggests Mauricio Pochettino is still “the favourite” to take the job, but also names Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, and Zidane as possible candidates for the vacancy.

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see Zidane wanting the Spurs job, and I don’t think it would be a good fit for him anyway.

There is no point in Spurs appointing another big-name manager who is used to working with an established squad.

We need a manager who is ready to take on a rebuild project, and Zidane doesn’t strike me as that kind of manager.
