Report: Spurs have explored possibility of signing Man City star this summer

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have explored the possibility of signing Manchester City defender John Stones on loan this window.

He revealed that Tottenham are trying to complete a deal for a central defender before the transfer window shuts tonight.

Stones is reportedly one of the names on the North Londoners’ radar but Ornstein suggested that the City defender is likely to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

While Pep Guardiola’s men do want to sell one sell central defender today, it is expected to be Eric Garcia, who is said to be close to a move to Barcelona.

Ornstein revealed that the finances involved in any deal for Stones proved problematic for Spurs which is why they turned their attentions elsewhere.

He claims that Antonio Rudiger is now the club’s main target, with the Chelsea man keen to complete a switch across London.

However, he added that Tottenham’s chances of landing Rudiger will depend on the Blues’ willingness to sell, with the likes of AC Milan also said to be interested in snapping him up.

It does not seem as if we are particularly close to pulling off a deal for any central defender today. If we do not manage to bring anyone in, hopefully, that can work in Tanganga’s favour and he can continue to build on his impressive displays last season.
