Report: Spurs have expressed an interest in signing non-league talent

Hampshire Live have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in signing non-league talent Nico Lawrence.

Lawrence came through the ranks of ‘Kinetic Academy’, a registered charity with the aim to use sport to attract and engage with disadvantaged young people.

It is revealed that the defender only recently joined his Glebe FC but has already attracted the attention of several top-flight clubs.

Scouts from several Premier League clubs have allegedly watched the youngster in action for the Southern Counties East League side this season.

Hampshire Live claim that Spurs and Bournemouth have made their interest clear to Glebe as they eye a move for the defender.

However, it is explained that Southampton are currently poised to win the race for Lawrence, having brought him through the door for a trial on the South Coast.

The report further adds that Glebe have informed the teenager that they would not stand in his way if he gets the chance to make a step up to a top club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are being linked with a lot more non-league players over recent months, which could be a sign that the club are now allocating more resources to scouting the lower leagues.

If that is the case, it would be a move in the right direction, as a number of Premier League stars over the last decade have begun their careers in non-league football (Squawka).
