Report: Spurs have held ‘internal discussions’ about experienced PL manager

ESPN have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have held talks internally about Brendan Rodgers as they continue to look for a new head coach.

Nagelsmann has now emerged as the top target for Tottenham, with the German said to be seriously considering replacing Antonio Conte in North London (Sky Germany).

If reports over the last week are to be believed, as thing stand, the three other leading contenders for the role appear to be Luis Enrique, Arne Slot and Vincent Kompany (Fabrizio Romano – Here We Go Podcast).

Since Rodgers’ sacking at Leicester City, there has been some speculation about Spurs potentially approaching the Northern Irishman about replacing Conte at the helm.

Journalist Graeme Bailey said on Talking Transfers Podcast just a few days ago that we should not rule out the Norther Irishman from the race for the Spurs hot seat as Daniel Levy remains a fan of the 50-year-old.

ESPN now have claimed that Rodger’s name has been ‘discussed internally’ at Tottenham alongside other options.

The report adds that while it is unclear whether the recently departed Leicester boss is on Spurs’ shortlist, Levy has spoken to him in the past about taking the job.

I think it is highly unlikely that Spurs would turn to Rodgers this summer, partly because it would not be an appointment that signals ambition.

However, that is not to say that the 50-year-old is not capable of doing a decent job.

One bad season at Leicester does not make Rodgers a bad manager just like one bad season at Bournemouth did not make Eddie Howe a bad one.
