Report: Spurs have identified two Pochettino alternatives if Conte leaves

The Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have identified alternatives to Mauricio Pochettino in the event that Antonio Conte leaves the club this summer.

Reports emerged this week that Conte has offered himself to Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 giants thought to be looking for a replacement for Pochettino (Le Parisien).

Meanwhile, it has also been claimed by GFFN that Daniel Levy has been in talks with Pochettino and is trying to convince the Argentine to return to North London.

The Daily Mail have now explained that while Spurs expect Conte to stay in charge, they are coming up with contingency plans in case the Italian walks away.

While Pochettino coming back is mentioned as a possibility, there is said to be some opposition to the 50-year-old’s return among the Tottenham hierarchy.

The North London club are thus said to have identified two alternatives – Graham Potter and Roberto Mancini.

The Mail claim that Spurs have long been admirers of Potter and considered appointing the Seagulls boss as Jose Mourinho’s replacement last summer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici is alleged to be a fan of Mancini, who is currently in charge of the Italian national team.

I suspect the opposition to Pochettino’s appointment would be coming from Paratici as the Italian has shown with his managerial picks so far that his philosophy is quite different to that of the Argentine.

Either way, I do not think the contingency plans will matter too much as I fully expect Conte to be backed in the summer and to remain at the club next season.
