Report: Spurs have launched offer for defender – Club want deal done in next three days

Multiple publications from Spain have reported today that Tottenham Hotspur have launched an offer for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet.

Previous reports have indicated that Spurs are expected to spend big on a left-sided centre-back this summer, with Lenglet being one of the options on the club’s radar (The Athletic).

Esport3 claimed earlier this month that Barcelona had offered the Frenchman to Spurs as the Catalan giants are keen to get the centre-back off their wage bill.

Sport Witness have now relayed reports from the print editions (27/06/22) of Sport and Mundo Deportivo, who have both reported today that Tottenham are ready to sign Lenglet on loan.

Sport claim that the France international has become a ‘problem’ for Barca, who are thought to be desperate to move him on.

The report states that while Antonio Conte’s men want to sign Lenglet on an initial loan deal with a purchase option, Roma are willing to sign the centre-back permanently.

This information has also been backed up by Mundo Depertivo, who add that Barca wish to complete the 27-year-old’s sale by the end of June amidst interest from Spurs and Roma.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that the speculation linking the likes of Bastoni and Torres to Spurs seems to have gone quiet over recent weeks, this Lenglet speculation might well have legs.

We know that Paratici rates the Frenchman, given that he reportedly tried to bring him to the club in January.

However, I still believe that Spurs only view Lenglet as a last resort in case some other deals fall through. If the Frenchman was near the top of our wishlist, we would have likely already snapped him up.
