Report: Spurs have made a ‘loose request’ to 36-year-old sporting director

Sport Bild reporter Tobi Altschaffl has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to explore a move for Bayern Munich technical director Marco Neppe.

Marco Neppe first joined Bayern Munich as a scout in 2014 before taking over as the head of scouting in 2017 and was finally appointed as the technical director by the Bundesliga giants in 2021.

Tottenham‘s interest in the German first came to light at the start of last month when journalist Georg Holzner revealed that Spurs were keeping an eye on the 36-year-old amidst doubts over his future at the Allianz Arena.

Kicker then reported two weeks ago that Neppe’s position at Bayern was being scrutinised amidst some of the club’s failed transfers recently but it was asserted that this had not put off the North London club.

Altschaffl has now taken to social media to reveal that Tottenham have made a ‘loose request’ for Neppe but the German has not made a final decision on his future and is currently continuing to help the Bundesliga champions plan for next season.

It is telling that the reports regarding a new sporting director have gone quiet over recent weeks, with Tottenham seemingly focused on appointing a head coach first.

That suggests that Scott Munn is overseeing the big decisions such as managerial hires, the academy set up and setting the club’s culture, with the incoming sporting director set to primarily focus on just recruitment.

If that is the case, Neppe may be quite an attractive candidate for Tottenham, given that his background is primarily in scouting.
