Report: Spurs have made an offer for centre-back valued at £30m

According to a report from Bild (as translated by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter.

Strengthening in central defence is said to be a priority for Spurs during this summer’s transfer window, with Alasdair Gold revealing that the club ideally wants to sign two centre-backs.

The likes of Jerome Boateng, Jannik Vestergaard and Joachim Andersen are all rumoured to be on the North London club’s radar.

Bild have now thrown another name into the mix by revealing that Spurs are interested in Ginter, who has just over 12 months left to run on his contract with Gladbach.

This is not the first time the German international has been linked with a move to Spurs, with the Lilywhites rumoured to have pursued the 27-year-old back in the summer of 2019 as well.

The report explains that Ginter will be sold this summer if he does not sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club.

It is asserted that he is valued by Gladbach at €35m (£30.1m) but there is no information on how much Spurs have offered or when they made their bid.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see there being truth to this rumour as Ginter ticks a lot of boxes that Spurs are looking for. However, I am unsure if we would be willing to pay upwards of £30m for a player with just 12 months left on his contract.

There is also the chance that the rumour might have been fed to the press by the German’s representatives in order to strengthen their hand while negotiating for a new contract.
