Report: Spurs have ‘no intention’ of selling 23-year-old despite La Liga club’s interest

Sky Sports have revealed on their transfer centre (29 June, 18:24) that Tottenham do not plan on selling Emerson Royal this summer.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported earlier this week that Tottenham are listening to offers for Emerson this summer despite the right-back not wanting to leave the club.

Reports over the last couple of weeks have credited Atletico Madrid with an interest in the Brazilian (AS).

Tuttomercatoweb reported on Monday that Atletico had made the Spurs man their number one right-back target and wanted to sign him on loan with an option to buy.

This was followed by a report by Football Insider, who claimed that Los Colchoneros had launched an opening offer for the former Real Betis man.

However, Emerson’s agent Dr. Fabiano de Abreu has insisted that his client will not be leaving Tottenham this summer (Lance).

This has now been backed up by Sky Sports, who claim that Tottenham are expected to rebuff Atletico’s interest in the right-back.

The report claims that Diego Simeone’s side tried to sign Emerson last summer and have now made an offer to sign the player but Tottenham have no intention of allowing the 23-year-old to leave the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

This seems to fly in the face of so many reports over the last few months regarding Emerson’s impending departure. Perhaps, Conte has changed his mind and decided to let Matt Doherty go instead.

However, I personally think that the most likely scenario is that Spurs do not want to commit to Emerson’s sale until they bring in a right-wing-back. I expect the Brazilian to depart before the window closes.
