Report: Spurs have opened informal talks about new contract for key player

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will hold formal discussions over a new contract with Son Heung-min in the summer, with the club keen to keep their captain out of the clutches of Saudi Arabian sides.

Son Heung-min now has a very prominent role at Spurs following the departures of Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane, with the South Korean being the new captain and face of the club.

He is also undoubtedly Tottenham’s biggest superstar and the man whom Ange Postecoglou’s men rely on to make a difference in key moments.

However, the 31-year-old continues to be linked with a move to the Middle East, with reports indicating a couple of days ago that he is one of the Premier League stars that Saudi Pro League sides will target at the end of the season (Rudy Galetti).

Talks underway between Tottenham and Son

Football Insider have now stated that Tottenham have no intention of letting their forward leave in the summer despite the interest from Saudi clubs.

The report says that the Lilywhites plan on tying down their captain to a new long-term deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is explained that Spurs have already begun informal talks with the forward’s representatives and will hold formal discussions with his entourage at the end of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Son is evidently quite invested in the new project under Postecoglou and he is certainly not the sort of player who is motivated primarily by money. I do not think the 31-year-old will consider a move to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career, no matter what kind of money is thrown at him.
