Report: Spurs have restarted talks with player they allegedly tried to sign in January

According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who the North Londoners reportedly entered into talks with during the January transfer window.

Spurs were heavily liked with Amrabat in January, with some sources even reporting at the time that Antonio Conte’s men had reached an agreement with Fiorentina for the 25-year-old’s transfer (Corriere Fiorentino via Sport Witness).

However, in the end, the North Londoners strengthened their midfield department with the acquisition of Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus, with the Uruguayan hitting the ground running at the club.

Foot Mercato claim that Spurs continue to hold an interest in Amarabat, with Fabio Paratici alleged to have been following the midfielder ‘for several years’.

The report claims Tottenham ‘have already started’ discussions with the Moroccan international’s entourage but it is said that the Lilywhites could face competition from Inter Milan, who are also thought to be keen on the Fiorentina star.

Finally, Foot Mercato add that Amrabat would be open to the idea of leaving the Artemio Franchi Stadium this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

We know that Spurs showed interest in Amrabat in January. However, I am not convinced that the 25-year-old was at the top of Paratici’s or Conte’s wishlist at the time.

I suspect it was more a case of being able to sign who was available in January. I would be surprised if the Moroccan is a target for Spurs this summer, given that many other top midfielders are expected to be on the market.
