Report: Spurs have right-back on their radar ahead of January transfer window

According to Bleacher Report Journalist Dean Jones, Lille defender Mehmet Zeki Celik is one of the players on Tottenham’s radar for the January transfer window.

It is claimed that Jose Mourinho is keen on strengthening his options at right-back and has been left impressed with Celik’s performances for Lille in the Ligue 1 this season.

Serge Aurier has featured heavily in the position since Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs and the Ivorian has shown an improvement with his performances.

Spurs have already featured Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters, Juan Foyth, Davinson Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko on the right side of their defence this season following the sale of Kieran Trippier in the summer.

With Mourinho’s assistant Joao Sacramento and goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos both having been with Lille until last month, they will know of Celik’s qualities.

The Turkish international is technically gifted and is known for his attacking prowess, having already provided two assists in thirteen Ligue 1 games this season (Sportlens.com).

Spurs Web Opinion

I have been impressed with Aurier since Mourinho’s arrival and believe he has the talent to become a top-class full-back. By encouraging him to play high up the pitch, Mourinho has sought to maximise his attacking attributes while reducing the chances of him making critical defensive errors.

I was quite hopeful that Foyth could make the right-back slot his own at the start of the season but it doesn’t appear as if Mourinho seems him as a viable option.
