Report: Spurs have six-figure bid for right-back rejected by English club

Peterborough have turned down a bid from Tottenham to sign young defender Benjamin Mensah, according to Football Insider.

The Posh are said to have turned down an offer worth £200,000 from Spurs and are keen to secure a higher fee for the talented right-back.

The report adds that Spurs are now ‘weighing up’ their options as to whether they should return with an improved bid for Mensah, who would slot into the club’s Under-23 side.

Mensah, 19, spent time with Aston Villa’s academy before leaving to join Peterborough in 2019. He has made four appearances for the senior team in the EFL Trophy (Transfermarkt), but is still waiting for his league debut for the club.

His development earned the youngster his first professional contract (Peterborough Today), which is set to take him through to at least the summer of 2023.

Championship clubs have a wealth of young talent that needs to be tapped into, and Spurs appear to be going down that route. If Spurs do sign him, then it is likely he will go straight into the reserve side or loaned straight back out so his development can continue.
